How X-System Works

X-System has developed technology which accurately and reliably categorises music by its physical effect on the brain.

What we have created

X-System is a mathematical model of the way the brain reacts to sound. We extract parameters from a sound file and combine them with machine learning (AI) support to create something we call the Innate Neurophysiological Response to Music (INRM).

This model is the result of over thirty years of research and fieldwork by Professors Paul Robertson and Nigel Osborne, who have spent years improving people’s lives through music. Through their work, they came to understand how we react to patterns in music and have used their insight to develop X-System’s core technology.

Our technology has been awarded three US patents and one European patent, with further patents pending.

We model the most ancient and primitive reactions to sound and music in the ‘primitive’ human brain: the brainstem, the amygdala, the primary auditory cortex and pathways to the limbic system.
